Has anyone been looking at Haiti lately?

Letters from Our Readers

Why has there been no recent reporting on the situation in Haiti? Is anyone aware that in February, General Charles E. Wilhelm, commander of U.S. troops in Haiti, told congress that U.S. forces there were in danger from lawless elements?

Has it been reported that it cost the U.S. taxpayer $20 million to keep troops there last year? Do the taxpayers know that U.S. aid money is used to support voodoo therapy?

We sent the troops to Haiti in September 1994 to make it safe for democracy by reinstalling a Marxist-Leninist as president in the face of opposition from the only stabilizing element in the country, the Haitian Army.

Now the former president, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, lives in disgrace but heads a lucrative drug trade while controlling a puppet administration.

A virtual who's who of Clintonites, including Hillary herself, have visited Haiti to try get someone to do something about Aristide, who makes between $200 million and $1 billion a year from the drug trade.

Don't the Haitians know that if this gets out it will look bad for the Clinton-Gore administration? Has Clinton-Gore ever met a Marxist-Leninist they didn't like? Isn't it about time that we get our troops of out of Haiti and admit it was a bad idea in the first place? Like so many of the ideas from the Clinton-Gore administration.
