Water Authority news

With a fairly light agenda for Monday's upcoming monthly meeting, the Peachtree City Water and Sewerage Authority is expected to hear finalized plans for the new watershed assessment.

"We talked in the last meeting about the scope of it," said WASA director Larry Turner. "We have that finalized now. We plan on making an award on that and getting started."

Turner expects the Authority to make a work authorization to the engineering firm that is already working on our permitting process. "This will be a work assignment under that contract," he said.

The Authority has seen some activity since last month's regular meeting, thanks to a special public hearing last week on the industrial pre-treatment program.

Under this program, the Authority regulates the amount of industrial waste that goes into the sewer system, much like a landfill would be regulated. Industries must receive permits for dumping such waste, and the concentration of certain elements, such as copper, is limited.

Turner said that he has not had any meetings with representatives from Senoia to discuss that city's request to purchase sewer service from Peachtree City. He presented the request to the City Council of Peachtree City two weeks ago and was instructed to initiate discussions with Senoia and see what its needs are.

Senoia has no water authority or other regulatory organization for water and sewer use. Turner said that expects to be meeting directly with the mayor and city council, unless they appoint a special committee to handle it.
