If you've had your eye on some obscure piece of equipment owned by Peachtree City, then your chance to pick it up may be coming soon.

The city is participating in a combined auction next week with the other government entities in Fayette County. The event, the first of its kind organized by the county-wide Collaborative Purchasing Committee, will be Saturday, May 1, at the Fayette County public works facility on McDonough Road.

A consolidated list of items from all city departments was declared surplus and approved for the sale by the City Council at last week's regular meeting. The list is a lengthy one, according to city staff, because the city has not had an auction in nearly two years.

Auction items are listed according to their condition, whether broken, obsolete, replaced on unknown.

A good deal of standard office furniture, such as tables, desks and chairs, is on the list, as well as other office equipment like storage bins and containers and typewriters. A number of printers, keyboards and other computer equipment are available due to being replaced by more up-to-date equipment.

Appliances and radio/communications equipment are available for auction, as are various pieces of playground/recreation equipment, including an Army surplus nylon parachute of unknown condition. Some hand tools are on the list along with fire department equipment and specialized equipment such as spotlights, ladders and a public address amplifier.

Five broken bungee cords are included on the miscellaneous portion of the list.

A number of lost and found items are available, including tapes and compact discs, stuffed animals, cellular phones and sporting goods.
