The Fayette Middle School Lady Cub track team wrapped up a successful seaosn on Saturday, as they won the leaguer championship. They had already won the county championship, by beating the likes of Booth Middle School, Whitewater, Flat Rock Middl and the rest of the middle schopols in the county, but their dominance was tested as they faced 14 teams from the Metro Middle School Athletic League.

The season ran from the middle of February until last weekend. The Lady Cubs practiced everyday under the tutelage of Coach Denise Cohelic-Roth, a former member of the Fayette County High School track team and a recent inductee in the Fayette County Sports Hall of Fame. There were 22 girls on the team, a mixture of seventh and eighth graders, all with the capabilities of scoring points for their team.

“There were one or two girls in each event that were strong enough to score,” said Coach Roth. “More than half the time, we were scoring two or three times per event.” The Lady Cubs won the county championship with a score of 111 points. The second place team was Booth with 81 points. In the league championship, Fayette Middle won over 14 teams with a score of 103 points. The seco nd place team was Conyers Middle School with 62 points.

The Lady Cubs went undefeated in league play and accumulated a record of 39-4-1 during the season. They return several strong members to the team next season and look to continue winning.
