Tidal wave of wins helps SCAT retain title

With several swimmers claiming top finishes, the Southern Crescent Aquatic Team retained the Georgia Southwestern Divisional title recently at the Kedron Aquatic Center. Kirsten Cartoski and Josh Williams lead the charge for SCAT, claiming six top finishes apiece.

Cartoski, who swims in the girls' 13-14 division, won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.26, the 500-yard freestyle in 5:29.88, the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.92, and the 100-yard breaststroke in 2:38.33. Cartoski took second place in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:25.72.

Williams swims in the boys' 15 and over division. He won the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 22.12, the 100-yard freestyle in 48.11, the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.64, the 100-yard butterfly in 54.82, and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:19.27. Williams had two second place finishes as well, in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.10) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.81).

Eight other members had first place finishes at the meet. Katie Ham in the girls' 11-12 division, winning the 200-yard freestyle (2:13.19) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.01). Kelly Ireland, who swims in the girls' 15 and over division, took first in both the 200- and 400-yard individual medleys (2:21.64 and 5:03.92 respectively).

Matt Edging took first in the boys' 13-14 division, winning the 200-yard backstroke. Whitney Huguelet, competing in the girls' 8 and under division, finished first in the 25-yard breaststroke with a time of 23.32.

In the girls' 15 and over division, Jessica Betts won the 100-yard backstroke 1:05.27). Rebecca Brokish won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:44.02, while Calle Fielden finished first in the 500-yard freestyle. In the boys' 15 and over division, Adam Dennis took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:58.01. SCAT finished the day with 35 second place finishes and 27 third place finishes.
