The Peachtree City Building Department received notice from the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission that Peachtree City is a "Model City" for the control of erosion and sediment. Notice followed an unannounced inspection of several commercial and residential construction sites throughout the community in march. According to a letter forwarded to Peachtree City by the commission, regional representative David Bennet and resource specialist Brent Dykes said, "We find that Peachtree City's program has dramatically improved since we began investigating the program on Aug. 19, 1998." Commission representatives commended building official Tom Carty, city engineer Troy Besseche and developmental inspector Harvey Stokes for their dedication and innovative efforts in erosion control. Carty said many of the inspected sites were in excellent condition, using retaining walls, mulching, silt fencing and sediment basins to prevent soil from eroding from construction sites. Carty said, "I would like to commend the builders in Peachtree City for their efforts in implementing these measures."
