The Peachtree City Building Department has established an automated phone line for scheduling building inspections. Residents can reach the automated system by dialing 770-631-2588, ext. 222. The system will ask callers to specify the type of inspection, permit number, address and lot number, subdivision, builder's name, and the caller's name and phone number. Calls received by 4 p.m. on a regular business day will be scheduled for inspection on the following business day. Residents can phone the automated line to schedule inspections for improvements to their homes. A permit from the Peachtree City Building Department must be obtained before construction of any type of addition to the home or property, such as fences, decks, accessory buildings, covered patios or lawn sprinkler systems. In addition to inspecting the structure for safety after construction, the Building Department also verifies that an improvement's location meets setback and easement requirements. Obtaining this information before construction can help residents avoid costly relocation or possible removal if the structure violates city code. The automated permit line was implemented following a suggestion made by a Building Department employee to the city's Quality Improvement Team. The QIT program involves employees from every city department, and provides an avenue for the people directly involved in a process to make recommendations for improving that process. Each year approximately 100 employee suggestions are implemented to allow the city to operate more efficiently. Residents can still phone the Building Department at 770-487-8901.
