State home schooling conference set for April 23-24 in Jonesboro

Fayette County residents who home school their children are expected to be among a statewide gathering of parents for the Georgia Home Education Association's (GHEA) 13th annual Conference and Curriculum Fair this weekend. The conference is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 23-24 at Jonesboro First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Registration and a curriculum fair will be at 9 a.m. Friday. Specialized vendor workshops will be held throughout the day to help familiarize parents with the most effective teaching methods and curriculum.

U.S. Senator Paul Coverdell will be in attendance on Friday at 7 p.m. as GHEA honors him for his pro-home schooling efforts in Washington.

Following the presentation, noted creationist Ken Ham, considered by some to be one of the most highly demanded Christian speakers in North America, will speak on how to build Biblical families. Rounding out the evening will be author and home schooling father Gregg Harris.

As the conference continues on Saturday, former Atlanta Falcon and Fayette County resident Greg Brezina and his wife Connie will be among the speakers. Debbie Brezina, detailing how to teach government and economics with a Christian world view, is also expected to speak on Saturday.

"Parents who are considering the possibilities of educating their children in the home should make the effort to attend this conference," said GHEA president Ken Patterson, who lives in Fayetteville with his wife Mary Jo. "With all the workshop sessions and guest speakers, these conferences are always a wealth of information for parents."

Event organizers say they expect the conference to be one of the best ever, attracting families from all over the state.
