Volunteers working to restore the historic Hollingsworth House in Fayetteville are hoping the latest donation to that effort will set just the right tone. City Council Monday honored Robert and Melinda Harmon for their donation of a Burling & Mansfield Upright Iron Grand piano to help bring out the turn-of-the-century style of the house. "We will place this piano in the same position in the music room that the piano was in originally," said Lisa Hovey-King, cochairman of the Hollingsworth House Committee. The city last summer moved the historic home to a spot between the Fayette County Administrative Complex and the Board of Education building on Stonewall Avenue to save it from the bulldozer. The house was in the path of a church construction project. City officials and volunteers have been working to restore the sprawling 4,000-sq. ft. colonial house for use as a community center. hopes are to use living spaces for wedding receptions and other parties and provide space for the Fayette Society of Fine Arts and the Southern Crescent Atlanta Visual Artists to conduct classes and other functions. Plans also include displaying artwork year-round, having art shows, hosting musicians and offering exhibits to attract visitors to Fayetteville's downtown area. The piano will be a perfect addition to the furnishings for the house, said Hovey-King Monday. The Harmons were presented with a proclamation in appreciation of their donation.
