Busy Kelly Drive between the industrial park and Ga. Highway 74 South has been closed for repairs after a broken water main washed out part of the roadway Tuesday, Betsy Tyler, information officer for Peachtree City, said Thursday afternoon.

Drivers should take TDK Boulevard or Paschall Road to Dividend Drive to avoid the closed section of the road, Tyler said.

An InterMedia Cable Co. subcontractor has been cited for the damage, Tyler said.

"Apparently, the subcontractor, who was boring under Kelly Drive, struck rock, deflecting the borer into the water line," Tom Carty, the city building official, said. "The water was forced between the asphalt and the road bed before it surfaced several yards away."

Carty described the damage to Kelly Drive as extensive. No through traffic is allowed on the road until repairs are completed.
