In one of its most ambitious agendas in several months, the Coweta County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to discuss 44 items at its Tuesday meeting. Among the more notable items are: · A discussion of the joint widening and resurfacing project for Lower Fayetteville Road. The county and Newnan officials have been in negotiations for several months on determining how much each government will pay for making the road safer. The road's traffic count has picked up considerably in the last few months as hurried commuters look for an alternative to the construction delays of Ga. Highway 34. · An execution of an agreement with 21st Century Coweta. For the last month, the relationship between the county commission and Coweta's economic development organization can best be described as frosty. Commissioner Jim McGuffey suggested at a meeting last month the organization be placed under the leadership of the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce. The idea came under fire from 21st Century Coweta leaders and the commissioners have been discussing how economic development can best be pursued for the county. · A discussion of choosing the county's natural gas provider. · The setting of a public hearing for the placing of a communications tower on Alexander Road. · A recommendation to construct a new county animal control facility. The county has been mulling and studying the prospect of building a new facility for the last year and is ready to release results of its study. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. at 22 East Broad Street in Newnan at the Coweta County Administrative Complex.
