Fayette County has the state's second highest percentage of households with incomes over $100,000, according to a study released last week.

Arkansas-based Acxiom Corporation, which stores and processes data from hundred of sources, said more than 114,000 Georgia households have incomes more than 100,000. The figure represents an increase of 51.7 percent since 1990 and Acxiom expects the figure to reach 120,000 by the end of the decade.

Fulton County had the state's highest portion of six-figure households, followed by Fayette and Cobb counties. Liberty County had the lowest portion, the survey said.

More than 5 percent of the state's household have six-figure incomes, up from 3.6 percent in 1990. Nationally, the figure is 6 percent, up from 4.4 percent at the beginning of the decade.

The top five counties in the state with most households with incomes over $100,000 are:

  • Fulton- 11.2 percent
  • Fayette- 9 percent
  • Cobb- 8.8 percent.
  • DeKalb- 6.5 percent
  • Columbia- 6.5 percent.

"The six-figure income category is Georgia's fastest growing. It's clear that the state's economic growth has pushed many households into six-figure territory, and that some high-income households have moved in from other parts of the country," said Acxiom's Donald Hinman.
