Fayette County and McIntosh have squared off a number
of times this school year in several different sports, but it is when
the soccer teams battle that the competition reaches a fever
pitch. This year, the McIntosh girls are ranked second in AAAA
while the Lady Tigers are ranked fifth. The McIntosh boys are
currently ranked seventh and the Fayette County boys are ranked
ninth. They will play on Tuesday at McIntosh with the girls
playing first at 5:30 p.m.
The McIntosh girls boast great ball control and speed, with
several offensive weapons and a stingy midfield and defense.
The Lady Tigers have a very strong defense and some key
senior leadership. Fayette hasn't capitalized as often as they would
like but a win is a win as long as they finish with more goals than
their opponents. McIntosh's leading scorer is Julie Herdic and
the Lady Tigers are led by junior Mandy Kovach.
The McIntosh boys and the Fayette boys may be closer
together than their female counterparts. Both teams are filled
with amazing talent, defending very well and limiting their
opponents shots. The Chiefs leading scorer is Beau Balesky while the
Tigers are lead by Brent Turner and Trevor Bowman.
These two teams may not meet again until the regional
playoffs, if they even meet again this season. It should be the best
regional game for either team and the level of play is incredible. Get out
your green or yellow foam pointers, bring some extra throat
lozenges and head out to see some soccer on Tuesday.
