If you've wondered why the Peachtree City Library has been closed until 11 a.m. on Wednesdays, it's because the staff is getting more training to help patrons with the latest technology at the facility. Technology/training manager Jill Kuhns says that all library staff will be brought up-to-speed on "each electronic resource housed at the library in order to better serve the public." She says that so far, library patrons have been enthusiastic about technology upgrades. The 14 public workstations at the library are going from a combination of DOS 6.2 and Windows 3.11 to Windows NT 4.0. The new server at the library has 27 Gigs of hard drive space for additional programs, and a new high-speed fiber-optic Internet connection is to be installed at all 14 stations in the next four to six weeks, she added. The manager noted that the library regrets inconvenience to users because of the late Wednesday openings, but she believes that the "benefits of having a highly trained staff will, by far, outweigh the temporary aggravation." With the new training, Peachtree City Library staff will hopefully be "the most knowledgeable staff in the county, ready to serve its patrons at the drop of a disk," Kuhns added. For more information on the library technology changes, call Kuhns at 770-631-2522.
