Extending TDK Boulevard

Peachtree City and Coweta County are moving ahead at a "governmental pace" toward extending TDK Boulevard into Coweta County, Mayor Bob Lenox told the Fayette County Commission Tuesday.

He explained that negotiations with Coweta to extend the road, going west off Ga. Highway 74 at Crosstown Drive, had been ongoing for more than a year. Lenox said both Coweta and the city have obtained some rights-of-way and he hoped to have Fayette support for the project.

Original plans, Lenox said, called for the road to be atop a dam for Lake McIntosh, a proposed water reservoir at the Fayette-Coweta border, "but we need the road now, and I don't know whether Lake McIntosh will be built in my lifetime."

Fayette Commissioner Glen Goza asserted that Lake McIntosh is very much a viable project and will be built. County Administrator Billy Beckett said the lake is an "uphill issue; water reservoirs are not simple, but we are fully committed to Lake McIntosh." Beckett added that the major problems at this point are probably wetlands mitigation concerns.

Lenox said he felt that there would be more effort to negotiate water withdrawals for Coweta, and he would like to "remove that as an obstacle to getting the road." Beckett said Fayette would "listen to any proposal" from Coweta, and affirmed support for the road extension as a means of helping to take the traffic load off Hwy. 74 and Ga. Highways 54 and 34.
