Opening This Week

Doug's First Movie A few years ago I would have been excited for this but without the voice talent of Billy West and having the show now run by Disney instead of Nickelodeon, Doug is wimpier than ever. Rated G.

Ed Tv's Matthew McConaughey is Ed, followed endlessly by cameras as his lie becomes a modern day Truman Show. Buzz is good, real good. Rated PG-13.

The Mod Squad Three young convicts become three young undercover cops in this movie based on the hit tv show from the days when Mod meant something. Rated R.

Already Playing

Forces of Nature Ben Affleck plays a soon to be married man who finds true love and happiness away from his fiance'. Rated PG-13.

The Corruptor Mark Wahlberg and Chow Yun Fat star in this film about dirty cops and Chinatown. Expect violence, grimaces and explosions. Rated R.

Wing Commander The new brat pack stars in this film about fighting evil in Space. The Styar Wars preview is rumored to accompany this film. Rated PG-13.

Cruel Intentions A sexy and steamy movie featuring diabolical plots and a great soundtrack. Rated R.

Analyze This Billy Crystal plays a psychiatrist who assists a mob boss played by Robert DeNiro. Rated R.

8mm Nicolas Cage is a detective on the trail of a killer who films murdering his victims. It is from the people who brought you Seven and Flatliners, so expect a dark, grisly, thriller.

The Other Sister Juliette Lewis stars as a mentally challenged girl in love with a mentally challenged boy. Tom Skerritt and Diane Keaton star as the concerned parents.

Elizabeth ­ A very well acted and beautifully shot film illustrating Queen Elizabeth's rise to power. Note: Not the figurehead of modern England but the true ruler in the 16th and 17th century. Rated R.

Office Space Mike Judge, creator of Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill, has about 40 great minutes in his directorial debut. The other 50 minutes drag. Rated PG-13.

October Sky A young, aspiring rocket scientist has dreams of being somebody special. Laura Dern and Chris Cooper star. Rated PG.

Blast From the Past Brendan Fraser and Alicia Silverstone star in this movie about a man raised in a bomb shelter for 35 years. Or is it they star in this bomb about a man in a movie shelter. Rated PG-13.

Waking Ned Devine A charming Irish comedy about a winning lottery ticket and its effect on a small town. Lots of cute accents and beer drinking. Rated PG.

Shakespeare in LoveWill Shakespeare be able to complete his play, Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's daughter ? Not if he can't find his muse.This film garnered 13 well deserved Oscar nominations. The acting, writing and direction are impeccable. Rated R.

My Favorite Martian Jeff Daniels and Christopher Lloyd star in this movie based on the television series. It's from Disney so it should be light-hearted entertainment for the whole family. Rated PG.

Message in a Bottle Kevin Costner and Robin Wright-Penn star in this movie based on a famous romance novel. From what I hear, the ending is a complete surprise.They start using e-mail. Rated PG-13.

Rushmore A brilliant comedy/drama about love, revenge and private school. Bill Murray stars and,surprisingly, plays a character other than Bill Murray. Rated R.

Varsity Blues A surprisingly original and well done film about football. Jon Voight and James Vanderbeek (TV's Dawson) star. Rated R.

Patch Adams Some would say that laughter is the best medicine, I, on the other hand, prefer expert medical advice.The comedic genius Robin Williams stars. Rated PG-13.

You've Got Mail A sweet little movie starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. They spew witty banter and charm throughout. Rated PG.

The Waterboy A mama's boy in New Orleans vents his aggression on the gridiron for a pathetic college football team. Adam Sandler and Henry Winkler ("The Fonz") star in this very funny film. Rated PG-13.

Enemy of the State Will Smith is chased by government agents for something that was placed in his bag without his knowledge in this thriller from famed action director Tony Scott. Rated R.

Jack Frost A rock and roll dad dies in a traffic accident and comes back to visit his family as a snowman. I was surprised to find out this was not a horror film. Rated PG.

The Rugrats Movie A movie about Nickelodeon's new cash cows the Rugrats. As fun as the show but as long as three of them. Rated G.

Mighty Joe Young A remake of the film that ripped off King Kong. This film was shelved several times, which usually means, it's no good. Rated PG.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer I still know that this series isn't nearly as witty or scary as the Scream movies. Rated R.

Babe: Pig in the City Babe was a lot more fun on the farm. If you are a child or an animal lover though, this film will not disappoint. Rated G.

Virus A computer virus from space lands on a ship and proceeds to turn humans into cyborgs. It sounds stupid when I say it. Rated R.

Saving Private Ryan The favorite in this years Academy Awards, this film scored 11 nominations. A great cast, alegendary director but beware, this movie is violent. Rated R.

The Thin Red Line Another WWII movie, this one about the horrors of war and what someone thinks about while they are in the heat of battle. For me it would be, "Get me out of this battle!"Rated R.

She's All That Combine Can't Buy Me Love with My Fair Lady, add a touch of The Ugly Duckling and you get this movie. You know what will happen from the opening second. Rated PG-13.

Payback A film about a criminal that gets wronged by his colleagues and yet audiences root for him. Why does this sound so familiar? Rated R.

In Dreams A psychlogical thriller about a woman who is haunted by a mysterious figure from her past. The scary guy is played by Robert Downey Jr. and for my money, there is not anybody scarier in Hollywood.Rated R.

Pleasantville Two kids from the 90's get sent to the fictional 50's through a magical television. It's a cute little movie about being who you really are, colorful. Rated PG-13.

Star Trek: Insurrection Picard takes the crew of the Enterprise to help a pleasure planet that is being attacked. If you're a fan, this movie is for you. If you're not, this movie won't make you one. Rated PG.

Beloved Oprah Winfrey stars as Sethe, a slave haunted by the ghost of her child. The film was directed by Johnanthan Demme (Silence of the Lambs).
