features variety of talents The 3rd annual Fayette Youth Arts Festival will be Saturday from 11 a.m .to 6 p.m. on Shakerag Knoll in the McIntosh Recreation Administrative Complex off McIntosh Trail. The event is sponsored by the Peachtree City Youth Advisory Board. The "brainchild" of Kimberly Scales, a former coordinator for the Commission on Children and Youth, and Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater manager Kristi Rapson, the festival was designed to encourage arts and performing among the teens in the community. Funding comes from the PTC Recreation Dept. Flat Rock Middle School art teacher Jenny Horne has worked with 120 of her art students on a special project: a paper quilt that will be on display along with the other works. Horne has been selected to be the Georgia State Teacher in charge of Youth Art Month next March 2000. Millie Turek, Sandy Creek High School chorus director and director of the newly formed Fayette Youth Chorale will showcase the upcoming spring concert with several program selections. McIntosh High School's drama students, under the direction of Feriel Feldman, will also perform. Rachel Ferguson, clogging and line dance instructor from the PTC Recreation Dept., will take the stage at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. with more than 30 of her young dancers. Cheri Montes, rec. dept. twirling instructor, has registered three of her students for the festival. Several local teen bands are scheduled between 3 and 6 p.m.: Slow Children at Play, Phlox, Mesh and Whimsical Band. Admission to the festival is free and there will be food vendors and craft sellers.
