Military Briefs

Army Sgt. Kelly R. Reagin has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal, awarded to soldiers who have served in any capacity in a noncombat area authorized by the Secretary of the Army. The recipients have distinguished themselves by meritorious service or achievement and accomplished the act with distinction.

Reagin, a cannon fire direction specialist, is assigned to the 7th Field Artillery, Ledward Barracks, Schweinfurt, Germany. A 1992 graduate of Fayette County High School, he is the son of Vickie and Marvin Reagin of Fayetteville.

Marine Cpl. Elkanah Facey, son of Fitebert and Sybil Facey of Fayetteville, recently was promoted to his present rank while serving with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13, Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma, Ariz.

Facey, a 1996 graduate of Fayette County High School, was promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.

Army Cadet Casey A. Martinez, daughter of William and Diane Martinez of Peachtree City, was placed on the dean's list at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. To qualify, the cadet was required to maintain a 3.0 grade point average.

The cadet plans to graduate in the year 2000 with a bachelor's degree and will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Her academic concentration is in environmental science.

Army Pvt. David M. Roman has entered basic military training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the eight weeks of training, Roman will study the Army mission and will receive instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and more.

Roman is the son of Olga L. and the stepson of Juno Soto of Peachtree City.

Air Force Cadet Andrew C. Steadman, son of H.C. Steadman of Peachtree City and Bonnie Steadman of Duluth, is one of several hundred U.S. Air Force Academy cadet volunteers who helped host the Pikes Peak Boy Scout Freezoree in Colorado. The cadets volunteered their time and energy to help plan, organize and execute the event for 3,000 Scouts.
