They only had a few practices this year, but the Fayette
County Youth Track Team arrived ready to race at the Cobb County
Track League Invitational at Sandy Creek on Saturday. In the
Under 8 boys division, David Mathis had three first place finishes;
in the high jump, in the 100 meter dash and in the 4x100 relay as
the anchor. Greg Booker took first place in the 400 meter dash.
In the Under 10 boys division, Ryan Jordan placed first as the
anchor in the 4x100 relay, while Jamahl Calloway took first place in
the 400 yard dash. In the Under 12 boys division, Mandila
Bynes took first place in the 100 meter dash. Monique Hawkins took
first place in the 100 meter dash in the Under 12 girls division.
There were a slew of second place finishes for the team
as well. Greg Booker tied for second in the high jump with
Sean Plunkett and took second place in the 100 meter dash. David
Mathis took second place in the 400 yard dash. His brother, James,
took second place in the 400 meter and the 100 meter dash in the
Under 10 boys division. Monique Hawkins finished in second
place in the 400 meter dash.
For third place finishers, Chazwyn Price took third in
the Under 8 boys 100 meter dash. Kevin Taylor finished in
third place for Under 10 boys in the high jump, while Bret Miller
took third in the running long jump. Mandila Bynes took third
place in the 4x100 relay in the Under 12 boys division.
