The Fayette County Tiger baseball team kept rolling along
this weekend, improving their record to 13-0 and 3-0 in the region.
On Friday night the Tigers took on the Upson-Lee Knights
and crushed them 19-0. What remains impressive in the score is that
it was done within four and a half innings. Fayette County
scored 10 runs in the first inning, four in the third and five in the
fourth. Brent Cloud and Bryan Davis both homered, while
Gerald Johnson took the mound and improved his record to 6-0.
The next day the mighty Tigers faced Greenville and won
13-2. The 13 runs all came within the first inning. Coach
Townsend then sat his starters down and let a lot of JV players take the
field. Brent Cloud homered again and Cory Bowen got the win,
pitching the first two innings and then splitting the pitching with
several other players. The Tigers faced newnan on Monday evening
and are gearing up for big games against East Coweta and
Griffin on Wednesday and Friday. Both games are at Fayette County
High School at 7 p.m.
McIntosh squared off against regional opponents LaGrange
and battled for a 12-10 victory. At one point in the game, the
Chiefs trailed 6-1. Preston Lemon hit a grand slam for McIntosh,
Brian Prahl hit a three run homer to give the Chiefs a lead.
LaGrange scratched out a few more runs and Brian Digby came on to pitch
in relief for the Chiefs. He stopped the bleeding and then produced
a two run homer of his own. The Chiefs won and would face
Troup County the next day. They would not fare as well against
Troup, committing several key errors and losing by a score of 13-5.
The Chiefs record is 7-2-1 and 2-1 in the region.
The Starr's Mill Panthers are hoping to manufacture some
runs in the future. They lost two very close games last week, to
Eagle's landing and Northgate, because they had stranded runners. 11
to be exact, in both games. The Panthers lost 9-7 to Eagle's
landing and 6-5 to Northgate. They trailed Northgate 6-1 but couldn't
get anybody else across home plate. The Panthers will travel to
Morrow on Thursday.
