'We admire, respect John'

Letters from Our Readers

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

I wonder why some Peachtree City pilots of the 1990s have not followed the example of the pilots of the 1970s and '80s?

Where are the pilots like Jim Care, Randy Wortmann, Rod Smith, Mike McGown, Dick Cassell, and Bruce Thoman?

These men worked with the school system and the community to build, not tear down. They were the men who ran for school board, who laid sod for the baseball field at Riley, who started the soccer programs, who coached all the various sports, who spent their free time helping teachers as aides, who had a direct and positive influence on our children and our community. These pilots were knowledgeable men who used the right channels to change what they felt was needed in our school system and community.

Just as the older citizens of Peachtree City remember the deeds of these pilots, the citizens of today will remember the scathing words Mr. Baran, a '90s pilot, used to try to discredit John DeCotis. The "old folks" know that John has been the voice of reason in our school system for 20 years.

We remember the young man from the Northeast. We watched him move up from Booth Junior High (yes, it was junior high), to Fayette County High, to McIntosh High School, to Huddleston Elementary, to the county office. We admire and respect John, not just for what he has done for the school system, but also for what he has done for the community and his church.

Before Mr. Baran attacks a man of John DeCotis' stature, he needs to contact the '70s' and '80s' pilots who still live in Peachtree City. They can advise him.
