Chrissy Prothro of Fayetteville, 13-year-old author of "I'm a Kid But I'm Not Kidding (I Love The Lord)," is the first recipient of a special award for juvenile writers from Georgia Writers Inc.

The writers' association met recently at Mercer University in Macon for its annual awards banquet. When it was discovered that Prothro was the only non-adult author entered in the "writing for young people" categories, the writers' board decided to create another category, reported Chrissy's mom, Donna Prothro.

The "Barry L. Taran Memorial Award for Juvenile Writers" was presented to Chrissy. The award is named for the late brother of Geri Taran, executive director of Georgia Writers Inc.

Donna says Chrissy was excited by the award but slightly nervous about the crowd, and about being in the company of so many adult writers. She added that Chrissy is still saying "maybe" when asked whether she will write another book.
