Pet ID Tags

The all-volunteer Fayette County Humane Society is joining hands with the Fayetteville PetSmart store to highlight "National Tag Day" Saturday, March 27.

According to Humane Society spokesperson Laurie Klonoski, the purpose of Tag Day is to encourage pet owners to provide identification for their pets, with a goal of reducing the number of lost and unclaimed pets in local animal shelters.

"A study of the nation's 6.1 million stray pets reports that only 16.6 percent of dogs and 2.1 percent of cats are reunited with their owners," she said. "Pet I.D. tags would certainly increase the chances of lost pets making it home again."

To emphasize the importance of the I.D. tags, Society members will be handing out coupons March 27 for a free tag a $5 value to the first 50 customers at the Fayetteville PetSmart store from 9-11 a.m. (one per family, please). The coupons will be good for one Quick Tag at the Fayette Pavilion store only, on March 27.
