Navy Constructionman David B. Kerlin, son of David B. Kerlin of Fayetteville, has departed on a seven-month deployment to Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, while assigned to U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 74, home based at Gulfport, Miss.

While deployed, Kerlin's unit will act as the area's alert battalion, lending forward presence and providing construction support to the region.

The 1996 graduate of Fayette County High School joined the Navy in October 1997.

Army Pvt. John B. Strong has entered basic military training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Strong is the son of Hamilton and Shirley Strong of Peachtree City. His wife, Amy, is the daughter of Connie Shepard of Peachtree City.
