GI Bill

There are more ways than just college for veterans to take advantage of the New Montgomery GI Bill Benefits they acquired while on active duty.

"Many veterans are not aware that they can use their GI Bill benefits in on-the-job-training programs with civilian businesses," Georgia Commissioner of Veterans Affairs Pete Wheeler said.

To use GI Bill benefits while enrolled in an OJT program, a veteran must work 30 hours or more during the workweek and the employer must agree to establish the program. The employer's OJT program must meet the standards established by federal regulations. The OJT program is evaluated by state approving agency representatives to determine its initial and continued compliance with the federal regulations.

"The OJT program allows a veteran to acquire a skilled occupation under the supervision of a skilled worker in a practical hands-on way," said .

For additional information, veterans or employers can contact James Jackson, director of the State Approving Agency, a division of the Department of Veterans Service, at 404-656-2306 or E-mail him at saaga@mindspring.com.
