The Fayette County Tigers improved their record to 9-0 and
a #2 ranking in the state for AAAA baseball last week. The
Tigers, winners of the Fayette Sports Pre-Season Tournament,
defeated Pike 5-3 on Wednesday on the strength of four homeruns.
David Cooper hit two, Jeff Barnes hit one and Brian Davis hit one.
Matt Epps got the win, pitching three and two-thirds innings and
Craig Brown recorded the save pitching three and one third innings.
The following day the Tigers faced Richmond Academy
of Augusta and beat them 12-5. The game began with an eight
run explosion for Fayette County in the first inning. Three more
runs came in the second inning. Adam Baker hit a triple and a double
in the same inning, scoring twice. Jeff Barnes hit a three
-run double, Brad Apking hit a double for an RBI and Brett Lathan hit
a solo homerun. The offense for Fayette County continues
to come up big when needed and the pitching has been able to
keep things under control.
In their win against Richmond Academy, Gerald
Johnson pitched two innings, giving up no hits and striking out three.
Lee Roberson followed Johnson, striking out six and only
giving up one hit in two innings pitched. Brett Johnson gave up
three earned runs in two innings pitched and Craig Barron gave
up one earned run in one inning pitched. The Tigers
faced LaGrange last night and will square off against Carver tonight.
