As you know, I have not been directly involved in the political arena for several years now. However, I have not lost my desire to see the state of Georgia move towards a Republican majority.

One of the most treasured things that came out of my run for the governor's office and my time of service as House Minority Leader was the opportunity I had to develop lifelong relationships with honest, genuine, conservative people. An ideal example is Eric Dial.

Eric was an integral part in my 1994 run for the office of governor. A 12-year resident of Fayette county, Eric has been a member of the Republican Party for eight years, serving on the Executive Committee of the Fayette County Republican Party for two years. In 1998, he was voted Republican of the year by his peers.

After faithfully assisting me in my campaign, Eric went on to spend three and a half years working for Congressman Mac Collins. One of those years was spent as a legislative assistant in Washington, D.C., and the remainder was spent in the district office serving constituents.

In addition to being appointed by Sen. Paul Coverdell to the Coverdell Leadership Institute, he now works as Director of Development for another conservative institution, the Southeastern Legal Foundation.

It is my distinct honor to publicly support Eric as he runs for chairman of the Fayette County Republican Party. I have no doubt that Eric will continue to be an asset to the party and that he is the man best qualified to lead the party into the 21st century. Eric has assured me that, if elected, inclusiveness will be his ultimate goal. It comforts me to know that our future rests in the hands of people like Eric. I hope you will join me on March 20 as I proudly cast my vote for Eric Dial at the Fayette County Republican Convention.

The convention will be held at Fayette Middle School beginning at 9 a.m. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact Eric at 404-365-8500 (work) or 770- 486-6171 (home).
