The Fayetteville Christian Church is in its 29th year and began when a group of 14 Christians met and decided to find a place where they could worship together.

At first they met in an unused elementary school and in December 1970, they chose W. C. Chapman to lead them as they moved forward.

Other Christians supported the new congregation with its prayers, offering song books and a communion set.

In January 1971, it adopted its current name and met in the "pink palace." This was a building that sat where the current Fayetteville Police Station is now located.

Five acres of land was purchased in January 1972. Dedication services were held for the completed church at the corner of New Hope Road and Hickory Avenue. Several buildings have been added since that time. Over 300 members can be found attending services on Sunday morning.

Serving as the senior pastor is Minister Daniel Overdorf. He was born in Illinois and primarily reared in West Virginia. He was a junior in high school when he first felt the pull in the ministry and after high school attended Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, Tenn. He graduated in 1995, served a church in Illinois and came to Fayetteville in September 1998.

Johnson Bible College is also where he met his wife, Carrie. She is a graduate of Perdue University with a degree in Environmental Science, and wanted to round out her education by attending a Bible school.

Minister Overdorf's hobbies in high school were basketball and golf, and is pleased to live in an area where he can golf year-round.

Rounding out the church staff are: Youth Minister Evan Lovelace, Children's Director P. J. Roberts, and the secretary is Helen Thornton.

The mission statement of the church is "Loving People Into Christ-Likeness" and they would be most happy to tell you more about it.

Worship service is Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday evening worship is at 6:30 p.m.

They are located at the corner of New Hope Road and Hickory Road and can be reached at 770-461-8763.
