Thanks to the efforts of the Tyrone Town Council, development in Tyrone just got a little bit more expensive.

At a called meeting Monday night, the town council gave approval to implementing a $1,075 impact fee on each new residential lot in the city effective March 8.

The council had approved the impact fees last November, but was waiting for the Department of Community Affairs to approve the fee structure.

At last week's town council meeting, town attorney John Mrosek suggested imposing the fees March 15.

But town manager Barry Amos shook his head no at the prospect, and asked the council to implement the fees as soon as possible because of a spate of development that is supposed to occur in the city in the next few weeks.

The fees will be used to generate some of the town's infrastructure improvements that will have to be made in the next few years to accommodate growth in the city.

In a capital improvement plan approved last fall, the town leaders said a new city hall, police station and library would need to be built in the next few years.

The town also wants to expands the city's recreational facilities to provide fields and trails so residents won't have to make the trek to Fayetteville or Peachtree City.
