For soccer fans in Fayette County, March is coming in like a lion.
Fayette County, Sandy Creek and Newnan all participated
in the Cougar Classic last week in Newnan. The
Fayette County boys were the tournament champions. In
game one, the Tigers led 3-0 before Gadsden's offense woke
up. The Gadsden team used the final 37 minutes to pound
the net, but only scoring two goals. Todd Edwards had
two goals for the Tigers, while Brent Turner chipped in
one. Trevor Bowman assisted all three Fayette County goals.
In game two, the Tigers faced Auburn, Ala. and dominated the entire
way. Fayette County scored the first three goals, while
going on to outshoot Auburn, 25-6. Auburn scored in the
second half, but it was their only real opportunity during the
entire game. Fayette County scored one more time to ice
the game and progress to the championship. Both
Todd Edwards and Brent Turner had two goals, while
Trevor Bowman added two assists and Craig White added one.
Fayette County dominated yet again in their
final game against Vestavia,Ala. From the opening whistle,
the Tigers put enormous pressure on Vestavia. Fayette
County outshot their opponents 20-6 and won by a score of
3-0. Andy Hannon scored twice for the Tigers and
Trevor Bowman scored once. Brent Turner and Todd
Edwards each had an assist. Fayette County faced Carver at
home last night.
