Brian Murphy, a junior pole vaulter from McIntosh, set a
personal record of 13.0 feet while competing in the Georgia
High School Invitational at the Georgia Dome recently. Murphy
placed third in the overall competition, which included the top twelve
high school pole vaulters from the state. This was Brian's first formal
competition and he narrowly missed clearing 13.6 feet on his third
and final attempt of the evening. Murphy is expected to have
a strong season for McIntosh after working with former U.S.
Olympic Champion, Earl Bell, this past summer at Bell's Arkansas
training camp.
