Popham, who holds a Realtors license, has been in commercial real estate since 1981 with the exception of a four-year period when he worked in city management. His experience includes commercial real estate development, sales, marketing, property/facilities management, lease negotiation, construction, and permanent financing.

From 1981 through 1985, Popham served as Commercial and Industrial Development Director for Peachtree City Development Corp. in Peachtree City, and he was most recently Georgia Asset Development Manager of Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Development Co. For the past 10 years, he has also operated Popham & Associates, a firm offering consulting services in developing conceptual master plans and development proformas for mixed use projects.

Popham is a member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association and is a past chairman of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce. He has served as a member of the Haralson County Water Authority and as a trustee of Beautiful Fayette Inc.

A native of the Avondale Estate area of Atlanta, Popham has a master's degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Florida. He has lived in Peachtree City since 1982 with the exception of a four-year period when he served as city manager of Bremen and Villa Rica, two cities in West Georgia. He is married to JoAnn Lenzi Popham, and their children all finished or are attending schools in Fayette County. Cameron, 20, is a student athlete at Valdosta State University, where he is a biology major and is the punter on the football team. Amber, 18, is a senior at Sandy Creek High School, where she is a member of the track team and was region high jump champion in 1996. Blair, 16, is a sophomore at Sandy Creek High School and is active in the drama club there.
