The Redan Lady Raiders were simply too much for Newnan
last Thursday night, as they outlasted the Lady Cougars 6-4 in
a goalfest. Junior Marci Pike assisted freshman Sister Edge
opening the Newnan account in the eighth minute to put the
Lady Cougars up 1-0. Redan rallied to tie the score before senior
Karen Hembree, Newnan's all-time leading scorer, put
sophomore Amanda Morton through, on a breakaway to the net for the
go ahead goal. Redan responded once again, scoring off of a
penalty kick.
The game was tied 2-2 at the half but the Lady Raiders
scored three goals within the first five minutes of the second
half. Newnan responded to the offensive onslaught with a penalty
kick of their own after Amanda Morton was taken down in
from behind inside the area. Senior captain Anne Barrow calmly
slotted home the ensuing penalty shot to bring the Lady Cougars
back within two goals. Redan replied with their sixth goal of the
match to reclaim the three goal cushion before sophomore
Whitney Mansour claimed her first goal of the season on an assist
from sophomore Patricia Ballantyne with a little over a minute to
play. The Lady Cougars will face Gadsden at Whitlock Park
this evening at 6:30 p.m.
