Free tax help through AARP

The AARP is currently offering free tax information at more than 200 counseling centers in the state. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers are trained and certified under the supervision of the Internal Revenue Service Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program. The service will run through April 15.

For information about the nearest AARP Tax-Aide site, call the Tax-Aide volunteer line 404-888-7744 or 1-888-AARPNOW. Both numbers are currently working and will operate through April 15.

Persons visiting a Tax-Aide site should bring copies of last year's returns and current year W-2's, 1099 forms and any other documents that may affect their taxes. Even those persons who are not required to file a federal or state tax return may be eligible for a low-income tax credit from the state of Georgia.

Information about taxes is also available from the IRS at 1-800-TAX-1040.
