It may still be winter, but one of the topics at next Tuesday's commissioners meeting will be July 4. The Coweta County Board of Commissioners will discuss the annual request from the Newnan Rotary Club to help stage the city's annual July 4 extravaganza. Each year, the club sponsors a parade through historic Newnan, which culminates with a fireworks show at Newnan High School's football stadium. Past grand marshals of the festival have included country music singer Alan Jackson and the festivities draw thousands into the heart of the city. The Rotary Club traditionally asks the county to help provide services for the event. Other items on Tuesday's busy agenda include: · An execution of a DOT request for a traffic signal at the intersection of Ga. Highway 34 and Newnan Pavilion. · A setting of a public hearing for a rezoning petition by Scott and Shannon Wood to rezone their property on Thompson Road from RR-R-200. · Several bid awards, including: Hauling for the 1999 fiscal year. Pipe purchases for 1999. Concrete purchases for 1999. Sign purchases for 1999. Rock purchases for 1999. Road striping for 1999. Three trucks for the public works department. An excavator for the public works department. An exhaust system for fire station #12. Copiers for the recreation department.
