Church League nears end of regular season

Trinity remained undefeated and handed Kenwood a loss last Friday on the strength of Dale Albee's 20 points. Kenwood had a hard time rebounding which opened the door for Trinity's 56-36 win. Trinity faces Braelinn tonight at 7 p.m.

Providence led Woolsey by seven points at halftime of Friday's game but watched their lead slip away in the second half. With four minutes remaining Woolsey trailed by two points but Providence's Brett Vincent scored 11 points to reignite his team's fire. Providence won by a final score of 47-41. Providence faces Flat Creek tonight at 8 p.m. while Woolsey faces Kenwood at 9 p.m.

Though Flat Creek beat Braelinn by a score of 59-38 on Friday night, Braelinn had cut the lead to four points with eight minutes remaining. Bart Hopper of Flat Creek took over, scoring 11 of his team high 14 points in the second half. Mark Smith of Braelinn led all scorers with 19 points.

'B' Division

New Hope clinched first place and a trip to the districts with a win over Southern Crescent on Tuesday night. New Hope was trailing by two points at the half and then pulled away in the second half, holding Southern Crescent to 13 points. New Hope won the game by a score of 55-42. Lee Sudduth of Southern Crescent led all scorers with 14 points. Jason Lohse led New Hope with 13 points.

Braelinn must win their final two games to clinch second place. They lost to Prince of Peace 72-61 on Tuesday night, despite leading by 15 points early in the game. Prince of Peace cut the lead to a mere four points at the half and then remained even with Braelinn throughout the rest of the game. David Rowan of Prince of Peace hit a three-pointer as time expired to send the game to overtime. Prince of Peace pulled away on the strength of Jerry Barman, who scored six of his 19 points in overtime. Cory Eubanks led Braelinn with a game high 23 points.

First Baptist edged out First Methodist on Tuesday night by a score of 43-39. First Baptist led by 11 points early in the second half but then went cold. Mike Kofskey of First Methodist got his team back into the game, leading all scorers with 18 points. First Baptist secured their win though when Mike Nelson scored seven straight points.
