To use this information properly, you will have to act
spontaneously. Today, the AAAA state basketball tournament begins at 4 p.m.
at Carver High School in Columbus. The first game is
between Hephzibah and the Fayette County Lady Tigers. Fayette County has
had a strong season. They have excellent size in the post with players
like Jessica Pritchett and great perimeter shooting from Becca Grizzard
and Abby Snauewaert. They survived one of the toughest sub-regions
in AAAA and should fear no team.
At 5:30, the East Coweta Indians take the floor against Westside
Macon. The Indians have a budding superstar in J.D. Stephens but
they also get consistently good play from the rest of the team.
Marcus Robinson and Jackie Britt have each stepped their games up of late
and play tough in the paint. If the Indians can keep it close early, they
can make a game winning surge at the end.
The region champs, The McIntosh Lady Chiefs, take the court at
7 p.m. to face Northeast Macon. McIntosh is stacked with good,
athletic players and not many teams can beat them if their perimeter
shooting is on. Jessi Prahl is a dominating force under the net, both
offensively and defensively. A big game for Prahl most likely means
advancing to the next round for McIntosh.
That is three basketball games, almost four and a half hours of
pure hoop action. Depending on when you read this paper, your time to
get to Carver High School is fading fast. Here are the directions to get
you there as quickly as possible. Take 85 South to 185. Take 185 to Exit 4,
the Macon Road exit. Go right on to Macon Road and travel
approximately two-and-a half blocks until you pass Sears -Roebuck on the
left. There will be a road on the left called Rigdon Road. Travel on Rigdon
for about two miles until you come to a 'v' in the road. Bear left on to
Iggles Road and then take a right at the 8th street intersection. The school
will be directly on your left.
Remember, if you cannot make it down on Friday, the East
Coweta Lady Indians will play Baldwin on Saturday at 4 p.m. East Coweta
has a very balanced and experienced team. They are a
fundamentally sound and talented bunch that made the state finals last year. Coach
Paula Jones knows what it takes to get her team to return to the finals, it's just
a matter of helping their competition stop themselves.
Admission is $7. Three games for $7 comes out to about $2.33 a
game. Head on down to Carver to support the teams from this area, they
represent the strongest region of the state. You have the information and
the countdown has begun. This article will self destruct in five seconds.
