Scouting for Food concludes Saturday

The annual Scouting for Food Land Rush, a collaborative effort of Kroger and hundreds of Fayette and Coweta Boy Scouts to restock local food pantries, will conclude this Saturday, Feb. 20.

Last Saturday, Scouts distributed specially designed Kroger Scouting for Food Bags onto the door handles of area residents. Residents wishing to participate filled the bags with nonperishable food items. This Saturday the Scouts will retrieve the filled bags and take them to various collection points.

"This project helps our Scouts experience the values of Scouting," said Tom Parks, Sepohayetv District Volunteer Chairman. "We teach our youth to value life and family and this is an excellent way to show them that doing good is not only fun, but worthwhile."

As a national movement, Scouting has designated hunger as one of five "Social Unacceptables." Through local involvement, Scouts are taking action to address this issue.

Flint River Council BSA has more than 8,500 youth members and more than 2,500 adult volunteers in Pike, Lamar, Upson, Spalding, Coweta, Fayette, Henry and Butts counties. Nationally, Scouting has more than 2.5 million youth members and 1.3 million adult members. For information, call 770-227-4556.
