Microfilm at library By CAROLYN CARY
Contributing Writer

The Fayette County Public Library recently added to its microfilm collection by adding 1,027 rolls containing federal census records for all Georgia counties during the years 1820 to 1920.

They also now have the Soundex for Georgia for 1880 to 1920, as well as a CD-ROM index for the 1790 to 1870 census records. The Soundex is a phonetic guide to locating family names that may been misspelled.

Library director Chris Snell said that only a handful of public libraries in the state have these records and the nearest location to Fayette County had been the National Archives in East Point and the Georgia State Archives in Atlanta.

The library also offers on CDs, SIRS, newspaper and magazine articles, full-text Encarta 98 Encyclopedia; American Business Directory; Family Tree Maker's Family Archives: United States Census 1607-1880; African-Americans in the 1870 Census; Military Records: Confederate Soldiers, 1861-1865; Military Records U.S. Soldiers, 1784-1811; Social Security Death Index: U.S., 1937-1996; and Complete Book of Emigrants, 1607-1776.
