The Fayette County High boys soccer team opened up the
1999 season with a preseason jamboree at Woodward Academy
on Friday night and a game against Collins Hill at home on
Monday afternoon. The Tigers beat Douglas County 2-1 and
defeated Cross Keys 2-0 on Friday. In their final game of the jamboree,
Fayette County tied Woodward Academy 0-0. Michael Franklin,
Brent Turner, Todd Edwards and Craig White all scored in the
jamboree and an honorable mention goes out to sophomore Ryan Terry,
for giving it his all before being taken down and suffering a broken
leg. The injury puts him out for the season.
Senior Brent Turner had both goals in the Tigers 2-0 win
against Collins Hill on Monday. David Dirring and Derek Walton
each had an assist. The Tigers dominated Collins Hill, out
shooting them 13-3. J.B. Wood and Jonathan Williams each played
a half in the net and were ever really tested. Fayette County
will travel to East Coweta High School on Friday to face the
Indians at 7 p.m. The JV team will play at 5:30 p.m. After
Friday night's game they won't be in the area again until Mar.4,5 and
6 when they participate in the Cougar Classic Soccer Tournament
in Newnan.
