During the regular season, the top four teams in girls 4-AAAA basketball were East Coweta, Fayette County, Griffin and McIntosh. It should be no surprise then that those four teams will be heading to the AAAA state tournament beginning this Friday. The road to the tournament pitted these longtime rivals against each other starting on Friday night. McIntosh faced Fayette County for a trip to the regional tournament finals, while East Coweta faced Griffin for their shot.

Sabrina McCord gave the Lady Chiefs 14 points in their win against Fayette County. The win gave McIntosh a 2-1 edge on games against Fayette County this year. East Coweta was edged out by Griffin 59-56, despite getting 23 points from Trishica Evans.

The Lady Indians and the Lady Tigers squared off in the consolation game on Saturday night. The trip to the state tournament was already assured but the teams were playing for a higher seeding. The Lady Indians reaped the benefits of some turnovers and defeated the Lady Tigers by a score of 52-47. Griffin and McIntosh have something of a history. They had split their games against each other during the season and most of the players on both teams have played against each other for a few years. Both the Lady Bears and the Lady Chiefs displayed very balanced attacks, consisting of excellent perimeter shooting and play in the post. Jessi Prahl contributed 15 points in the Chiefs effort, as McIntosh won by a score of 60-49.

The state tournament action begins on Friday evening at Carver High School in Columbus as East Coweta faces Baldwin. Fayette County meets Hephzibah on Saturday and McIntosh squares off against Northeast Macon. The East Coweta boys will battle Westside Macon on Saturday in the AAAA boys state tournament, also at Carver High School in Columbus.
