Over the past few weeks, I have read comments from parents about the athletic facilities at McIntosh and Starr's Mill high schools in Fayette county. I won't mention names but each parent perceived that these schools should have the same facilities and wanted multi-million dollars spent for football stadium and soccer fields. This kind of bickering is really childish. These parents should be concerned about a quality education for their children instead of a sports arena. As a taxpayer I am concerned about spending our educational resources on sporting complexes. Physical education is necessary. Multi-million dollar football stadiums are unrealistic. Quality education for all is a must. The idea of each city having its own high school and having to compete for funds for these schools is long outdated. If we really want a first class educational facility, the Board of Education must seriously consider building a consolidated county high school pulling out all the stops to make it a first class school. The school should offer technical training as well as academic training for those who want to go on to college. I have seen this work in other states, i.e., McGavock in Nashville, Tenn. Until something positive is done, the bickering and whining will continue and quality education will suffer. Larry Robinson
