The Peachtree City Council plans this year to build a recycling center, develop a city-wide recycling program, acquire some natural areas through the Southern Conservation Trust and develop a stormwater management plan. Those projects were part of the update for the Short Term Work Program for the city, which was approved for sending to state agencies at last week's council meeting. Updates on the city's Comprehensive Plan are required every February and are submitted to the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) and the state Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to comply with the Georgia Planning Act. The council also approved a request by Pathway Communities to lift a moratorium on multifamily rezonings to consider an assisted living facility. The home would be located at Bridge Park Commercial Subdivision at Ga. Highway 74 and Aberdeen Parkway, said Pathway's Jerry Peterson. The necessary zoning change would be from general commercial to limited-use commercial. Council's approval means that Pathway can apply to the planning commission for a rezoning and that city staff will research the application. After public notice and consideration by the planning commission, the rezoning comes back to City Council for final action. The moratorium lift applies only to that piece of property, Mayor Bob Lenox stressed. Council also changed an ordinance concerning the time to end council meetings. The new ordinance provision specifies that "No agenda item of an open meeting other than the one under consideration will be discussed after 11 p.m. Council shall have the authority to suspend this requirement and adopt other procedures by majority vote." The action can after a limited discussion before a vote Jan. 7 on a proposed shopping center for the corner of Walt Banks Road and Ga. Highway 54.
