Senoia residents might soon be zipping through the city on golf carts and bicycles, if the city receives two grants it's applying for.

During Tuesday night's Downtown Development Authority meeting, Mayor Joan Trammell told authority members that she was working on two "alternative transportation" grants.

The first grant would link the city from the new bridge on Main Street to Ga. Highway 16 with a sidewalk. The second grant would link the city's two parks on Seavy Street and Howard Road with an eight-feet wide path that could be used for pedestrians, bicyclists or golf cart drivers.

Trammell indicated that much of Seavy Street is already wide enough to build the paths and the path has to be eight-feet wide long to accommodate two golf carts.

The mayor is hopeful the city will hear about the grants later in the year. In other news from the meeting, the authority:

Elected Frank Hollberg as its new chairman. Hollberg emphasized the authority needed to form an overall plan and start getting busy on getting the authority moving. The new chairman also decried the lack of funds from the city, but Trammell said the city would have to see some sort of plan before any funds could be committed.

The mayor emphasized the city backed the authority's efforts, but said she will still have to see something a little more concrete before the city could establish a budget for the authority.

Decided to instruct city clerk Betty Cookman to get copies of the valuation of the downtown business area. Authority member Gary Gruby pointed out the information was easy to get from the tax assessor's office and was public information. Gruby said once the city can put a dollar estimate on the investment in downtown, it will be far easier to lure potential companies and investors to move into some of the city's vacant buildings.
