Chrissy Prothro of Fayetteville, a 13-year-old student at Flat Rock Middle School, has been nominated for the Georgia Author of the Year Award.

Sponsored by Georgia Writer in Marietta, the awards dinner will be held March 13 at Mercer University in Macon.

Prothro was nominated in the Children's and Young Adult Literature Category for her book "I'm a Kid but I'm Not Kidding," about her religious experiences and her love of Christ, and advice for her peers on how to avoid the pitfalls of growing up in a world full of temptations. Morris Publishing made the nomination.

Chrissy's parents, the Rev. James and Donna Prothro, say the family will attend the dinner as a group, and that Chrissy is very excited about the honor, "but she has a humble approach to everything, so she is very subdued," Donna noted.

Chrissy plays in the band and is an A-B student at Flat Rock. She says she wrote the book to help young people.
