As part of a new agreement between the city and its trash hauler, Georgia Waste Management, the company will begin picking up five days a week instead of just one. The city will be divided into five areas, with pickup in a different area each day. Also as part of the agreement, the firm will provide containers where residents can bring their Christmas trees, and also will provide an extra city-wide pickup the day after Christmas. Pickup of yard waste also will be provided once in the spring and once in the fall, specific dates to be announced. * First comes paving, then come stop signs. Recently paved Old Norton Road has become a thoroughfare, according to Lisa DeLuca of the Homeowners' Association at Stonebriar subdivision. Four-way stop signs at Old Norton and Chess Chase/Woodbriar roads, and at Old Norton and Ferncliff/Riverlook Mill, "would cut down on excessive speeds used by many motorists," DeLuca said in a letter to City Hall. The side streets currently have stop signs, but not the through street. City Council agreed, approving the additional stop signs unanimously, conditioned upon indication that the majority of homeowners favor the change. City engineer Don Easterbrook said he expects that confirmation soon and, if he gets it, can put up the signs within a day or so after that.
