The 'It's not my fault' gene

I was reading about the Y2K problems facing us in the year 2000, and why it is happening. It was very interesting to discover that the problem wasn't that the computer gurus didn't know about the "glitch" in the last two digits that would roll over in the year 2000, and it wasn't that they didn't know how to fix it. All they had to do to fix it was to be responsible in "their watch" to take the time and money to do it. But because of the "it's not my fault" mentality, it was put off. Look at it another way. The computer executives and experts knew of the problems, but didn't want to take the responsibility to do it during their terms in office.

This reminds me of something I read entitled "who's responsible?" It went something like this. When something goes very wrong in life the husband was not responsible because his wife told him to do it, the wife wasn't responsible because she had come from an economically deprived childhood, the children weren't responsible because they had an abusive childhood and the parents weren't responsible because they had to work to make a living. The school wasn't responsible because of the curriculum they were required to teach. The arresting officer wasn't responsible because he was just doing his job!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all just had our defective genes to blame it all on.

We have the alcoholics saying they have the alcholic gene, the homosexuals say they were born that way, the embezzlers have the embezzler gene, the liars have the liar gene, the adulterers have the adulterer gene, the gossipers have the gossiper gene, the murderers have the murder gene, the children have the "don't honor your mother and your father gene" and finally, we have the "don't love God with all your heart and all your mind" gene.

Guess what, we have just explained away the entire 10 commandments all because we had these defective "genes."

There is however one defective gene condition we are all born with. And that is the "original sin gene" which must be dealt with in every life yours and mine.

The good news is that yes we all have desires and temptations in life, but God's Word says that there is no temptation under heaven that we cannot overcome through Him.
