Gov. Roy Barnes announced approval late last week of a $3 million Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority loan for Coweta County. The loan will be used to fund water system improvements by the Coweta County Water Department. "I congratulate you on your efforts to meet the environmental needs of your community. We are pleased to be a partner with you in this effort. With a strong commitment for infrastructure improvements from local governments, Georgia can continue to protect and enjoy the state's water resources," Barnes said in a letter to Coweta County Commission Chairman Lawrence Nelms. The loan will be used to fund some 22 miles of water line extension concentrated in the southeast and western quadrants of the county which includes the Haralson and Senoia areas, along with Mount Carmel, Smokey Road and the Powers' Crossroads area. The loan is for a 20-year period at an interest rate of 4.2 percent.
