Peachtree City Fire Department hosted practical examinations for National Professional Qualification Firefighter Levels I and II conducted by the Georgia Firefighter's Standards and Training Council Jan. 30. The examinations were conducted at Neely Fire Station #82.

Thirty-two firefighters successfully completed the examinations. This included 25 members of the Peachtree City Fire Department and seven members of other agencies. The examinations required correct demonstration of a variety of tasks and functions specified by the National Fire Protection Association Standards.

Peachtree City firefighters who completed the Firefighter I (Basic) examination include volunteers Tom Bowman, Fred Bryant, Robin Lasky, Mary Beth Rowe and Jason Smith and career member David Winkles.

Peachtree City firefighters who completed the Firefighter II (Advanced) examination include volunteers Jeff Felmet, Robert Hebert, Rex Old and Josh Shelton, and career members Chris Campbell, Kerry Crawford, John Dunlap, Sandy Faulkner, Clint Murphy, Mark Poole, Peki Prince and Scott Waller.

Members of other agencies who completed the Firefighter II examination included Chris Compton, Keith Harris and Dave Jones of the Fayetteville Fire Department; Reserve members Phil Breland and James Purdy of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services; Tim Wall of the Rockdale County Fire Department; and Sandra Allen of the Smyrna Fire Department.

Peachtree City Fire Department is pursuing national accreditation under the auspices of the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. Attainment of individual national certifications supports achievement of national accreditation for the department, and assures a higher level of excellence in service provided to the citizens of Peachtree City, according to Capt. Stony Lohr.
