Midshipman Joshua K. Pell, a student at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y., marched with the federal academy's 80-member Regimental Band in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and in the Ticker Tape Parade for astronaut John Glenn.

Pell, the son of John and Rebecca Pell of Fayette County, plays trombone and is a freshman a the academy, which trains young men and women to be merchant marines and U.S. Naval Reserve officers. He is a 1998 graduate of Sandy Creek High School and was nominated to the academy by U.S. Rep. Mac Collins.

Army Pvt. Steven L. Moore Jr. has graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, Ky. The training included basic military training and advanced individual training. Moore, a 1998 graduate of Fayette County High School, is the son of Susan McNaughton of Fayetteville and Steven Moore Sr. of Smiths, Ala.

Army Sgt. Joseph J. Pruitt has graduated from the 61-day Ranger training course at the U.S. Army Ranger School, Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

The training phases are conducted at Fort Benning, in the mountains of northern Georgia and in the Florida swamps at Eglin Air Force Base near Valparaiso. The course is designed to develop confident and capable small-unit leaders.

Pruitt is a fire team leader assigned to the 187th Infantry Regiment at Fort Campbell, Ky. A 1987 graduate of McIntosh High School, the sergeant is the son of Joseph and Deborah Pruitt of Peachtree City.

Air Force Airman Corinne C. Zimmer has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, Amn. Zimmer studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs, and received special training in human relations.

Zimmer, a 1997 graduate of McIntosh High School, is the daughter of Ilona Zimmer of Peachtree City and John Zimmer of St. Clair, Mich.

Army Spec. Kenneth E. Gosnell has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal. The medal is awarded to those individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Army.

Gosnell is an administrative specialist assigned to the Headquarters Company, 13th Support Command Battalion at Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas.

Spec. Gosnell, a 1991 graduate of Fayette County High School, is the son of Judy Robinson of Fayetteville.
